I might add you come across very well in sharing compassionately with students of all levels of experience, keeping it fun and rewarding.
Twinkle Star is a great introductory pattern for learning the Judy Niemeyer approach to paper pieced patterns, essential paper piecing tools and tips, cutting and preparing foundation papers, fundamental paper piecing processes, curved piecing, floating points. and lone star units. The pattern includes three distinct groups that combine to create a stunning 38″ x 38″ quilt that goes together very quickly. I’ve taught this pattern in several in-person guild retreats, to rave reviews, because there is so much great learning in a manageable and affordable package! If you’re looking for an “on-ramp” to the world of Judy Niemeyer and Quiltworx, it doesn’t get better than this! No previous paper piecing or quilting experience is necessary! If you can use a rotary cutter & a ruler and sew a straight line, you have the skills to tackle this course!
Like many of our favorite quilts, your choice of color way can create a wide variety of looks. Experienced quilters may want to use this project to practice their design and color-way skills! This small sampling of Twinkle Star designs I snagged from the Quiltworx Facebook page gives you just a little taste of the potential of this pattern.
For those who want to experiment, Twinkle Star is Quiltster compatible, meaning that you can plan your Twinkle Star with your colors and fabrics using the online Quiltster digital quilt planner. (I’m offering a great online tutorial on how-to-use Quiltster in January – click for more information!)
I offer my classes on Zoom, an online platform that will allow you to see and hear my lessons live on a smartphone, tablet, or laptop or desktop computer.(Or if you have a conflict — catch the recorded class at your convenience.) Once you have registered for your class, (from the link below) you just need your device and access to the Internet, you don’t need to purchase any software or pay for any other services to participate in our Zoom class. By the way, you don’t have to be a geek to use it. I will send you a web link for each class and you click the link at the scheduled time to participate in the class. That’s it! If you’re worried about the technical aspects, I’ll even schedule a time where we can chat and I’ll help you get logged on to Zoom on your device.
Many of our past participants prefer Zoom classes because you don’t have to pack up your machine, and lug your material and tools to a shop or meeting room for classes. It all happens in the comfort of your own sewing space! I use multiple cameras so you have a front row view whether I’m explaining an illustration in the pattern booklet or showing you how to feed a finicky piece through the sewing machine. If you have questions during the class, it’s live and interactive – ask questions, ask for a closer look or show us your progress — all live! And here’s the bonus… I record the classes and make them available for several months. If you have to miss a live class, you can review the recording at your leisure. If you’re having problems with a particular technique, just retrun to that part of the video and watch that section again! Plus I include additional technique specific videos to help you master those techniques. Because things happen, and life gets in the way of sewing (I hate that!), I’ve had a number of quilters complete my classes by only watching the recordings and an occasional phone call or question over text or chat. So don’t let the class schedule limit your participation. You will be provided access to all materials, including the class recordings for months after the class ends. My exclusive BobKat Quilts guarantee is that I’m with you until you finish your project. If you have a question, I’m available to you by chat, email or call (even a 1-on-1 Zoom session) until you finish your quilt (even if the formal classes ended weeks ago)!
