You have seen these beautiful quilts filling the pages of Facebook, Instagram and Pinterest! In the world of Judy Neimeyer and Quiltworx, the Dinner Plate Dahlia is one of five “Technique of the Month” patterns which are only available from Quiltworx Certified shops or as a part of a Quiltworx Certified Instructor’s course — like this one! Did you know that these heirloom wonders are truly patterns that with proper instruction even a beginning quilt maker can make? And I would love to be that instructor and help you every step of the way to grow your Dahlia and watch it bloom!
I’ve taught this course in person to dozens of quilters in traditional classrooms but now I’ve developed a complete system to teach this class online and to help you successfully complete this stunning quilt! Join me and I will teach you everything you need to know – from the minute you register until your quilt top is complete. I’ll be with you every step of this incredible journey.
We’ll make sure you understand the Zoom platform first. Then if you are new to Quiltworx (or even if you are not!), I’ll make sure you understand the Quiltworx approach, the patterns and how to prepare for your first day of class. I can even help you visualize and select the colors and their placement in your quilt so that your Dahlia will be the colors and fabrics YOU love and you’ll know exactly what it will look like before you sew your first stitch! I will provide you the detailed fabric shopping list– or I can help you find the perfect resource to purchase your fabrics in a prepared kit. Any needed notions / supplies can be purchased from BobKat’s online shop at a class discount! It’s true…. you CAN create the Dinner Plate Dahlia of your dreams!
Because classes are on the interactive ZOOM platform – there is no packing up. No traffic. No lugging your machine in the rain, cold or snow. No travel – no hotel bills! You will be in your own bed every night. No worrying about social distancing or health risks. You will work from your own sewing room and have all your tools set up the way you like available to you. You can attend in your jammies with your coffee or Coke right next to your machine where it always sits! Unlike typical online classes where you can only watch – with ZOOM you watch, listen, ask questions AND get answers right then and there. All sessions are recorded so you can go back and revisit them as needed. Unlike a typical classroom where students huddle around the instructor during demonstrations where you wrangle to get a good view – EVERYONE has the same perfect view. I utilize multiple camera angles as well as PowerPoint and graphics to make sure you have the perfect look at exactly what you need to see to understand what it is you need to do. From lectures – to cutting to pressing to sewing – you’ll have the perfect view every time.
Beginning on the evening of September 8th we’ll start with an Introduction to Zoom. We’ll make sure you can connect with your computer, smart phone or tablet. (It’s not complex, if you can Netflix, you can Zoom). We’ll review how the technology works before the actual quilting class begins. Then there will be an Introduction to Quiltworx patterns – so whether this is your first “Judy quilt” or you are an experienced paper piecer, I’ll review how to “read the pattern”, understand and prepare your papers, understand the terminology, and the tools. Amd most importntly — understand how Quiltworx patterns make it easy to keep it all organized!!! You’ll be ready to start growing your Dahlia! After those two introductory sessions, the remainder of our classes will meet on Saturday mornings. In each session, I will introduce and demonstrate the techniques you will need to keep sewing, and progressing on your project between classes. You will have time in class to get started to make sure you understand what you need to do – but homework between Zoom sessions will allow you to make great progress through the class and by the last class you can be beginning the assembly of your quilt!
There is time built into the schedule to allow you to do quite a bit of sewing during class time on your own – so that the last Dahlia session and the Quiltworx Finishing session will allow you to put your quilt together with Kathy’s guidance and support.
Don’t forget — my guarantee to you is that I will be available via email, phone or video chat until your top is complete! If you get stuck or forget what you need to do — I’m here to support you and get you moving forward again.
Dinner Plate Dahlia is available in 2 sizes. The Wall size is 80” x 80” and the Queen Size is 99” x 99”. The full Quiltworx quilt pattern for the size you select is included in your class fee.
I hope you’ll plan to join me! A new Technique of the Month pattern will be released early in 2021 so you may not see many Dahlia class options for a while! But you will have plenty of time before then to finish your beautiful Dinner Plate Dahlia and be ready for the next beautiful Quiltworx TOTM release!!
Your course fee includes:

Simplify your planning and fabric shopping for this project. Purchase our $25 Quiltster Consultation and I’ll help you visualize up to three options with your color choices and fabrics. We can start with your stash or your favorite colors and fabrics. The process will generate a color print-out of your design and will give you a detailed shopping list for your favorite shop or I can connect you with a Certified Quiltworx Shop who will use your customized Quiltster report to assemble your personalized fabric kit. This Quiltster Consultation is a separate purchase from our store. We will schedule a one hour appoint for your consultation ideally at month before Class 1.
This class was so much fun. I learned a lot. Thanks Kathy for an excellent session on Quiltster.
