Kathy was exceptional to make sure no student was left behind!

The Zoom class was a great way to teach and the cameras were positioned to really see what she was teaching. The nice thing about the recorded classes is the ability to re-watch tricky areas of the sewing. It really

Patience for Poinsettias

Kathy was extremely patient with the class sponsored by our guild since so many of us were first time paper-piecers. She did a great job of going through all the steps so no one was lost. I signed up for

A Confidence Booster!

I had never tackled anything like the Dinner Plate Dahlia before.  I was really skeptical whether I could do it, but Kathy made it do-able.  I really appreciate not only Kathy’s help and instruction, but especially her support!  Great class,

Dinner Plate Dahlia Zoom Class

August 28, 2021 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm CDT

$25.00 – $390.00

Grow Your Own Dahlia!

You have seen these beautiful quilts filling the pages of Facebook, Instagram and Pinterest!  In the world of Judy Neimeyer and Quiltworx,  the Dinner Plate Dahlia is one of six “Technique of the Month” patterns which are only available from  Quiltworx Certified shops or as a part of a Quiltworx Certified Instructor’s course — like this one!   Did you know that these heirloom wonders are truly patterns that with proper instruction even a beginning  quilt maker can make?  And I would love to be that instructor and help you every step of the way to  grow your Dahlia and watch it bloom!

BobKat’s Unique Online Courses

I’ve taught this course in person to dozens of quilters in traditional classrooms but now I’ve developed a complete system to teach this class online and to help you successfully complete this stunning quilt!   Join me and I will teach you everything you need to know – from the minute you register until your quilt top is complete.   I’ll be with you every step of  this incredible journey.

If you haven’t ventured onto Zoom yet — I’ll make sure you are comfortable with the teaching platform.    Then if you are new to Quiltworx (or even if you are not!), I’ll make sure you understand the Quiltworx approach, the patterns and how to prepare for your first day of class.   I can even help you visualize and select the colors and their placement in your quilt so that your Dahlia will be the colors and fabrics YOU love and you’ll know exactly what it will look like before you sew your first stitch! I will provide you the detailed fabric shopping list– or I can help you find the perfect resource to purchase your fabrics in a prepared kit.  Any needed notions / supplies can be purchased from BobKat’s online shop at a class discount!  It’s true….   you CAN create the Dinner Plate Dahlia of your dreams!

The Best Seat in the Room…

Because classes are on the interactive  ZOOM platform – there is no packing up. No traffic.  No lugging your machine in the rain, cold or snow.   No travel – no hotel bills!  You will be in your own bed every night. No worrying about social distancing or health risks.  You will work from your own sewing room and have all your tools set up the way you like available to you.  You can attend in your jammies with your coffee or Coke right next to your machine where it always sits!  Unlike typical online classes where you can only watch – with ZOOM you watch, listen, ask questions AND get answers right then and there.   All sessions are recorded so you can go back and revisit them as needed.  Unlike a typical classroom where students huddle around the instructor during demonstrations where you wrangle to get a good view – EVERYONE has the same perfect view.  I utilize multiple camera angles as well as PowerPoint and graphics to make sure you have the perfect look at exactly what you need to see to understand what it is you need to do. From lectures – to cutting to pressing to sewing – you’ll have the perfect view every time.

Course Schedule

Beginning on  the morning of August 28th where we’ll start with an Introduction to the Dinner Plate Dahlia  Quilt.   Tere will be an Introduction to Quiltworx patterns – so whether this is your first “Judy quilt” or  you are an experienced paper piecer, I’ll review how to “read the pattern”, understand and prepare your papers, understand the terminology, and the tools.  Amd most importantly — understand how Quiltworx patterns make it easy to keep it all organized!!!  You’ll be ready to start growing your Dahlia!  You’ll have a few weeks to get organized, enjoy the “the end of the summer” and then we will get going… by sewing!   In each session, I will introduce and demonstrate the techniques you will need to keep sewing, and progressing on your project between classes. You will have time in class to get started to make sure you understand what you need to do – but homework between Zoom sessions will allow you to make great progress through the class and by the last class you can be beginning the assembly of your quilt!

Class Dates are as follows: (All times are CST!)

  • Getting Started:   Zoom Intro and Introduction to Quiltworx Patterns – Saturday, August 28 – 10:00 – noon.
  • Dahlia Session #1 – Saturday September 18  – 10:00 AM – 12:30 PM
  • Dahlia Session #2 – Saturday October 2 – 10:00 AM – 12:30 PM
  • Dahlia Session #3 – Saturday October 16 – 10:00 AM – 12:30 PM
  • Dahlia Session #4 – Saturday October 30 – 10:00 AM – 12:30 PM
  • Dahlia Session #5 – Saturday November 13 – 10:00 AM – 12:30 PM
  • Dahlia Session #6 – Saturday November 20– 10:00 AM – 12:30 PM
  • Quiltworx Students’ Finishing Session  – Saturday, December 4 – time TBD  (open to all BobKat’s Quiltworx students)

There is time built into the schedule to allow you to do quite a bit of sewing during class time  on your own – so that the Dahlia Session #6 and the Quiltworx Finishing session will allow you to put your quilt together with Kathy’s guidance and support.

Don’t forget — my guarantee to you is that I will be available via email, phone or video chat until your top is complete!  If you get stuck or forget what you need to do — I’m here to support you and get you moving forward again.

Which Dahlia are you going to grow?

Dinner Plate Dahlia is available in 2 sizes.  The Wall size is 80” x 80” and the Queen Size is 99” x 99”.   The full Quiltworx quilt pattern for the size you select  is included in your class fee.

I hope you’ll plan to join me!  A new Technique of the Month pattern was released early in 2021 so you may not see many Dahlia class options for a while!  But you will have plenty of time to finish your beautiful Dinner Plate Dahlia and be ready to join me next spring to sew your next Quiltworx Heirloom Quilt (maybe the Coral Reef?)

Your course fee includes:

  • The Full Quiltworx Dinner Plate Dahlia Pattern
  • Quiltworx 101 – introductory pre-recorded video
  • At least 15 hours of class instruction by a Quiltworx Certified Instructor
  • A special class opportunity to help you assemble and finish your quilt
  • Personal support and followup until your Dahlia is complete

Note: Select your ticket for this course based on your pattern choice!

Remember, the pattern is included in price of the course.  (already have your pattern?  Then message me and I can invoice for the instruction only which is $300 — patterns are discounted approximately 25%.)

  • Wall Size – $375
  • Queen Size  – $390

Purchase your ticket below today

A deposit of $75 will hold your seat.  Deposits are refundable through July 15, 2021 — after that time you will receive a credit toward a future class.  Balance is due before 7/31 to insure ample time to get your pattern to you.

A Special Option

Simplify your planning and fabric shopping  for this project.  Purchase our $25 Quiltster Consultation and I’ll help you visualize up to three options with your color choices and fabrics.  We can start with your stash or your favorite colors and fabrics.  The process  will generate a color print-out of your design and will give you a detailed shopping list for your favorite shop or  I can connect you with a Certified Quiltworx Shop who will use your customized Quiltster report to assemble your personalized fabric kit.   This Quiltster Consultation is a separate purchase from our store.  We will schedule a one hour appoint for your consultation ideally at least one month before Class 1, to allow you plenty of time to secure your fabric.
