SUMMARY:BobKat's Autumn 2025 Shipshewana Retreat - Feeling Groovy!
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=””]Autumn is a wonderful time to visit Indiana’s Amish country.   Shipshewana is great place for quilters!  There are several massive quilt and fabric shops within walking distance of our retreat space at the Farmstead Inn\, and there are more than a dozen more with in a 20 minute radius.  We keep the participant group to less than 30.   I’m now doing both a Spring and an Autumn retreat and we’ve sold out the Spring retreat last two years. \nAs usual we’ll focus on Quiltworx projects and this year I’ve chosen some great patterns with a wide range of options including Feeling Groovy\, Hocus Pocus\, and Summer Solstice.  You can do them straight\, expand them to queen size or even give them a swirl!  See the examples below.  Of course you’re welcome to purchase another Quiltworx pattern at a discount or bring one that you’re already working on. Choose one of the featured patterns or a pattern I’ve taught before and I’ll share the class videos so you can get a head start on your quilt before the retreat.  Need help after the retreat?   I’m there for you as well via phone\, email\, facetime or Zoom.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=””] \nFeatured Patterns\n[/vc_column_text][vc_row_inner equal_height=”yes” content_placement=”middle” css=”.vc_custom_1743267423254{margin-top: 3px !important;margin-right: 3px !important;margin-bottom: 3px !important;margin-left: 3px !important;padding-top: 3px !important;padding-right: 3px !important;padding-bottom: 3px !important;padding-left: 3px !important;}”][vc_column_inner width=”1/3″][vc_single_image image=”14497″ img_size=”Large” css=””][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/3″][vc_images_carousel images=”14753\,14754\,14836\,14840\,14751\,14750\,14752\,14837\,10066\,10941″ img_size=”400×540″ onclick=”link_no” autoplay=”yes” hide_pagination_control=”yes” wrap=”yes” css=””][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/3″][vc_single_image image=”14501″ img_size=”large” css=””][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][vc_column_text css=””] \nAdded Benefit \nWant help planning your  Feeling Groovy\, Hocus Pocus or Summer Solstice?  Soon after you register\, we can meet face-to-face on Zoom and  I’ll help you plan your color way on Quiltster. You’ll get a personalized report outlining your fabric shopping list\,  an index of Fabric ID’s and general fabric cutting information  .  Click here to see a preview of how we’ll design your quilt in Quiltster!   \n \nI’ll support you in securing your fabric and getting organized before the retreat.  At the retreat I’ll help you make great progress on your own one-of-a-kind Quiltworx keepsake quilt.  And if there is a Zoom series available — you’ll receive that full class series as well.  Everyone gets my pledge to be by your side from start-to-finish!  NOTE:  Hocus Pocus Zoom Series will be available prior to the retreat.  Feeling Groovy not till later… \nLooking to do a different pattern?  No problem\, You can purchase any Quiltworx pattern from me at a discount or bring your own pattern and you’ll still get great personal support from me (and complementary class videos when available!)  Just want some quality sewing time in a supportive environment? Mary T.Fun instructor who teaches to all levels of skillHi\,\nJust wanted to post a little note. I am very new to sewing and especially quilting. My friend\, who lives in Indiana\, asked me if I wanted to take a quilting class with her. So I did. Kathy was beyond fantastic. She is a true instructor who understands how not to overwhelm students who are trying to learn a new skill set. It was super fun\, relaxing and I learned a lot. There were some very experienced quilters in the class who also learned a lot. I’ve already decided that I’m going to Shipshewana again next year (2025)! Thanks for a fun week! Dana ARetreat\, Videos\, In-Person – Great ways to learn!I really like your hybrid teaching concept with great in-person instruction\, supplemented with videos shared before and available for review after the retreat.  I think that is more of the way the future will look.  Many traditional quilters like the in-person sessions\, and I understand that. But those of us with jobs and kids and other responsibilities cannot afford to be away for long periods of time.  While this was a table topper class\,  I did purchase a queen size pattern\, so it was worth going thru the class versus doing something from videos only. Gina VivianoYoder's Department Store - Shipshewana\, IN“My First Retreat! — What A Blast!”What a blast! The “Best Little Quilt Retreat in Texas” was my first retreat\, my first paper piecing project\, and a first-class teacher . Thank Kathy for making the Judy technique doable for me! Terri J.M. Best Little Quilt Retreat in Texas 2023I learned a LOT!I have special needs children and really needed a 2-day respite\, but the pace was faster than I expected\, so I didn’t get much rest!    The videos you shared ahead of the retreat were a life-saver!  However\, with that said\, I did enjoy my time at the retreat. I appreciate how you were able to attend to everyone in the place they were as we got going. You were thorough in your explanations\, which was great. And you shared some invaluable tips and tricks to surviving a “Judy project”.  Meredith the other instructor from Yoder’s Department Store was a strong\, stable persona in the room the entire time and that helped as well!   I enjoyed getting to know you and the ladies in the group\, which is rare for me as an extreme introvert!  Thank you for the experience! Gina VivianoYoder's Department Store - Shipshewana\, INHer first Paper Piecing Project – WOW!Kathy’s note:  This was Elaine’s first paper piecing project!  All I can say is WOW!!! Thanks Kathy!  Couldn’t have done it without you!  You are a great teacher.  I highly recommend her for your quilting projects. PS The Quilt is even more beautiful in person! I can’t truly say I’m “bummed” about missing her next one because I’m going to Quiltworx (!!!) in October\, but if it weren’t for that I’d be doing everything I could to be here. But that just means my seat is open for someone else!   This retreat WILL fill up!  If you have the time\, you should be here —  The value is phenomenal. Thank you Kathy for a fantastic week! Tabitha A.I Loved the Retreat!I joined Kathy at her BobKat Quilts Shipshewana Retreat where I worked on my 1st Quiltworx Quilt Carnival Flower. I loved the retreat and Kathy’s world of knowledge! I thought your teaching was right on. Loved all of your short cuts and tips so our projects would come out perfect. Even at home as I continue my project\, I can use your tricks. We really didn’t go thru the instruction book. I don’t know if that was a good thing or not. I certainly have had no problem following along now that I’m at home. Lastly\, I would like to know how you organize your instruction book(s). I know a lot of people use highlighters on certain instructions. How do you do it? Again thank you for a great class. I am looking forward to seeing you again in Shipshewana for future classes. Debra RYoders/Cotton CornerEnjoyable and relaxingI enjoy Kathy’s method of teaching. It’s relaxed and free form. SUMMARY:Twinkle Star - A Great Introduction to Paper Piecing and Quiltworx Patterns
DESCRIPTION:Twinkle Star is a great introductory pattern for learning the Judy Niemeyer approach to paper pieced patterns\, essential paper piecing tools and tips\,  cutting and preparing foundation papers\, fundamental paper piecing processes\, curved piecing\, floating points. and lone star units.  The pattern includes three distinct groups that combine to create a stunning 38″ x 38″ quilt that goes together very quickly.   I’ve taught this pattern in several in-person guild retreats\, to rave reviews\,  because there is so much great learning in a manageable and affordable package!  If you’re looking for an “on-ramp” to the world of Judy Niemeyer and Quiltworx\, it doesn’t get better than this!  No previous paper piecing or quilting experience is necessary! If you can use a rotary cutter & a ruler and sew a straight line\, you have the skills to tackle this course! \nA Versatile Design\nLike many of our favorite quilts\, your choice of color way can create a wide variety of looks.  Experienced quilters may want to use this project to practice their design and color-way skills!    This small sampling of Twinkle Star designs I snagged from the Quiltworx Facebook page gives you just a little taste  of  the potential of this pattern. \n \n \nFor those who want to experiment\, Twinkle Star is Quiltster compatible\, meaning that you can plan your Twinkle Star with your colors and fabrics using the online Quiltster digital quilt planner.  (I’m offering a great online tutorial on how-to-use Quiltster in January – click for more information!) \nOnline Classes  – In your sewing room –  On your schedule. \nI offer my classes on Zoom\,  an online platform that will allow you to see and hear my lessons live on a smartphone\, tablet\, or laptop or desktop computer.(Or if you have a conflict — catch the recorded class at your convenience.)   Once you have registered for your class\, (from the link below)  you just need your device and access to the Internet\,  you don’t need to purchase any software or pay for any other services to participate in our Zoom class.  By the way\, you don’t have to be a geek to use it. I will send you a web link for each class and you click the link at the scheduled time to participate in the class. That’s it!  If you’re worried about the technical aspects\, I’ll even schedule a time where we can chat and I’ll help you get logged on to Zoom on your device. \n \n  \nMany of our past participants prefer Zoom classes because you don’t have to pack up your machine\, and lug your material and tools to a shop or meeting room for classes.  It all happens in the comfort of your own sewing space!   I use multiple cameras so you have a front row view whether I’m explaining an illustration in the pattern booklet or showing you how to feed a finicky piece through the sewing machine.  If you have questions during the class\, it’s live and interactive – ask questions\, ask for a closer look or show us your progress — all live!   And here’s the bonus… I record the classes and make them available for several months.  If you have to miss a live class\, you can review the recording at your leisure.  If you’re having problems with a particular technique\, just retrun to that part of the video and watch that section again!   Plus I include additional technique specific videos to help you master those techniques.   Because things happen\, and life gets in the way of sewing (I hate that!)\, I’ve had a number of quilters complete my classes by only watching the recordings and an occasional phone call or question over text or chat.  So don’t let the class schedule limit your participation.   You will be provided access to all materials\, including the class recordings for months after the class ends.   My exclusive BobKat Quilts guarantee is that I’m with you until you finish your project.   If you have a question\, I’m available to you by chat\, email or call  (even a 1-on-1 Zoom session) until you finish your quilt (even if the formal classes ended weeks ago)! \nWant to know what others think of our classes?  Go to the home page of this site and scroll down the page for a slide show of nearly 100 testimonials from other quilters. \nClass Schedule\nThis project class is bargain priced so you can give paper piecing a try.  If you are already a paper piecer — you are still welcome to join us! \nWednesday\, February 16 – 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM (Central Time) \nWednesday\, February 23 – 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM \nWednesday\, March  2 – 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM \nWednesday\, March 9 – 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM \nClass fee includes pattern\, all instruction (videos will remain available for months after the live class concludes) which includes both live class sessions and additional technique videos.  Plus my BobKat Guarantee — which means I’m here for your until your quilt top is complete!!  Whenever that is! \nWhat you get: \n\n12 hours of instruction (plus several hours of additional support videos!)\nYour Pattern (retail value $27)\nSupport and assistance from start to your last stitch!
